BE ON THE LOOKOUT
On Tuesday, a nearby resident got two flat tires as he returned to
his home. A subsequent check by his family of suspicious items
on South Miller Road between Oak Lane Road, by the dog
kennels, and Buckhorn Run Drive revealed numerous roofing nails
that have a small nail protruding through an orange disc on and
near the roadway.
This morning, it was further discovered that nearly 100 of the
roofing nails were discovered on the pavement and in the grass
on South Miller Road between Oak Lane Road and Arborwood
Drive. The Sheriff’s Office was notified and a street sweeper was
dispatched to the area in an effort to protect the public from
needless and costly flat tires.

The sad thing is that, for those of you on the Next Door app, you
may have seen this same scenario be reported weekly in the
Riverview, Brandon and Valrico areas. The Sheriff’s office
spokesperson related that there have been over 400 flat tires
reported in the past few weeks via these same orange nails.
CARELESSNESS OR INTENTIONAL ACT? Who knows?
Keep your eyes open when you are driving on area roads. Be especially
mindful if you are driving behind any roofing contractor vehicles
and if you see any of these roofing nails coming from the vehicles
onto the roadway make every effort to get the company name
and tag number and report it immediately to the Sheriff’s Office
at 813-247-8200.
BE VIGILENT, BE CURIOUS, BE SUSPICIOUS, AND REPORT YOUR
OBSERVATIONS IMMEDIATELY!
